M.O.B My Own Business Kaz Foncette, founder of Heroes Haven
by Sta Camera
In this winter edition, MOB 4U2 News Mag sits down with Kaz Foncette, founder of Heroes Haven, a vibrant, purpose-driven space born from her personal cancer journey and years of community work through her charity Wigs for Heroes. Opened in July 2024,
Heroes Haven is more than a boutique—it’s a sanctuary where fashion, healing, and hope come together.
When did you start your business?
I opened The Heroes Haven in July 2024, born from years of community work through my charity Wigs for Heroes which I established in 2018
Why did you start your business?
2 things really, after my own cancer journey, I wanted to create a place where healing, hope, community and style could coexist and also have a self funded space. Fundraising is the hardest part of charity work but it was with the support of a People’s Project grant by the national lottery which enabled me to have a dream
come true.
What training was required?
A strong love of fashion and styling over the years, event organisation alongside years of retail experience and a lived experience of cancer
What does a typical day look like?
Each day is so different for me, one day I’m in the stock room sorting donations and steaming, the next I’m supporting clients through hair loss and managing a team of employees and volunteers
What challenges have you faced?
Staffing has been the biggest challenge. As a charity, we rely heavily on volunteers, and finding consistent, passionate help can be difficult, but their contributions are the heart of what keeps The Haven alive.
Greatest rewards?
Witnessing transformation. The most rewarding moments are when someone
who once came in broken returns smiling, ready to share how far they’ve come.
Best advice received?
Lead with purpose, not perfection.
