Bowel Cancer Screening: Early Detection Saves Lives

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, but when it’s found early, recovery rates are high. The NHS offers a free home testing kit (FIT) every two years for people aged 50 to 74. It’s quick, private and can detect tiny traces of blood long before symptoms appear.
In Haringey, health inequalities mean some communities face greater risks. The borough has a 15‑year gap in healthy life expectancy, and Black African and Caribbean residents often experience later diagnosis and poorer outcomes. Screening helps close this gap by giving everyone the chance of early detection and better recovery.
