Stage Life Big Peoples Theatre
by Lorna Blackman
Since age 5, I’ve pursued acting despite early rejection from schools, which I overcame with perseverance. My Master’s from Goldsmiths University in Community Theatre and Education, coupled with a nomination from ex-student Kamahl Sami for the Alfred Fagan Foundation’s UK top 25 Black
Theatre champions, has shaped my directorial work. Influenced by parents Rose Hughes and Martha Harris, and mentors like Directors Peter Nelson and Blossom, I’ve focused on nurturing talent, especially within the African Caribbean community at The Stylisters. As director, I’ve maintained a 100% pass rate for all students in our Introduction to Level 3 classes. Upcoming projects include “Who Poisoned the Salt Fish Fritters” and “The Lost Chalice,” enhancing performance skills for professional paths.
Our adult acting course, featuring in “The Black Poppies” by Stephen Bourne, is notable for its historical significance.
