Books Build Brillance – The Year of Reading
by James Beckles (Buzzing Bee)
This spring, we’re celebrating The Year of Reading—a season to explore books, writing, spoken word, and the creative arts that bring stories to life. Reading strengthens our minds, while writing helps us reflect, heal, and express who we are. This year we’re shining a light on self-publishing and community publishing, as well as illustration, visual storytelling, and community art. More people than ever are releasing ebooks, zines, illustrated stories, and digital art books – proof that every voice, and every style, has space to shine. Whether you read, write, draw, or perform, your creativity matters. Workshops, writing circles, and creative sessions across the community are supporting new storytellers, illustrators, and makers. “When you open a book, you open a door— and every door leads somewhere new.”
Sola Story is an author and storyteller empowering youth through African myth, creativity and agency. Join his upcoming book launch celebrating narrative power, community growth and Ubuntu.
